Public Health Nursing in Meigs County, OH

Funded by the Health Services Levy of Meigs County, the Meigs County Health Department offers Public Health Nursing (PHN) services to residents of Meigs County. Public Health Registered Nurses administer immunizations to residents of all ages according to CDC Guidelines. Immunizations are administered Monday through Friday 8am to Noon and 1pm to 4pm. Annual flu shot clinics are held in addition to regular immunization clinics.

PHN Services are offered regardless of the persons’ ability to pay. For more information, please call Leanne Cunningham, BSN, RN, DON, or Angie Rosler, BSN, RN at 740-992-6626 weekdays between 8 AM and 4 PM.

ATTENTION: The MCHD’s policy for a client to receive Nursing Services is that you MUST present a PHOTO ID and all INSURANCE CARDS/MEDICAL CARDS (IF INSURED). If the person seeking Nursing Services does not have medical coverage, a photo ID is still required. This ensures our accountability to those we serve and to the insurance companies we bill for services.

2025-2026 Flu Vaccine Update

The Meigs County Health Department currently does have flu vaccine in stock.

Flu shots will begin on Saturday, October 4th at the Meigs County Farmers Market Flu & COVID Shot Clinic.

In-office flu vaccinations will start on Monday, October 6th.

The Meigs County Health Department currently has COVID-19 vaccine in stock. You must schedule an appointment to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine. Call us at 740-992-6626.

Recommended Schedule for Routine Childhood Immunizations:

Every child must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian. No immunization will be given without their signed or written consent. Please bring the child(ren)’s medical card, insurance card (if applicable) and their shot record to the clinic! Donations of $30 are appreciated but not required for administration.

The Meigs County Health Department uses VaxCare to supply vaccines for adults and children aged birth through 18 who have commercial insurance coverage. We cannot currently afford to purchase vaccine that is not supplied by the Ohio Department of Health (which is only for children aged birth through 18 years with Medicaid and who meet various other criteria determined by the federal/state government). For VaxCare, an insurance card is necessary plus the card’s co-pay.

HIV Testing

The state of Ohio provides free at-home HIV test kits to those at risk of HIV infection. Please visit http://ohiv.org to order your free test kit. You may also order free condoms and find other HIV resources at this site.

Free Hepatitis C Testing

Monday – Friday 8A.M. – 12P.M. & 1P.M. – 3:30P.M. Please call ahead to make sure a nurse is available.

Free Vision Services

The MCHD has grant funds from the Ohio Department of Health to assist children up to the age of 21 years with vision problems. To qualify, a child must NOT have any medical coverage, including Medicaid. For adult vision assistance the MCHD partners with Prevent Blindness Ohio. Lead and Hemoglobin Testing - $20.00

Lead and Hemoglobin testing are available for children birth through age 5.

Project DAWN – Deaths Avoided with Naloxone

FREE Naloxone Kits are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis to community members who want to be prepared and trained to administer Naloxone in the event of a possible opioid overdose. Kits can be picked up in-person or can be mailed to community members. Project DAWN Kits are also provided to Law Enforcement and First Responders. Now Offering Free Fentanyl Test Strips

In expansion of the Meigs County Health Department’s Harm Reduction Program and Project DAWN (Naloxone) Program, we are now offering FREE Fentanyl Test Strips (FTS) to those who need them. According to the Ohio Department of Health, fentanyl was involved in 80% of Ohio unintentional drug overdose deaths in 2021. Overdoses in Meigs County accounted for 16 deaths in 2020, 14 deaths in 2021, 21 deaths in 2022 and 14 deaths in 2023. FTS is available on a walk-in or appointment basis. Recipients will receive a short training along with local substance use disorder treatment resources. Please visit the following link for further resources.

Head Lice Checks - $27.00

Head Lice Checks are offered on a walk-in or appointment basis. Please call ahead to ensure a PHN is available.

Pregnancy Testing - $10.00

Pregnancy Testing is offered on a walk-in or appointment basis. Please call ahead to ensure a Public Health Nurse is available.

Free Blood Pressure Screening

Blood Pressure Screening is offered on a walk-in or appointment basis. Please call ahead to ensure a PHN is available.

Free Lead Case Investigation

A Public Health Nurse will provide lead investigation services for children birth through age 5. A home visit will be conducted to assist the family to identify possible sources of lead poisoning and to educate families on measures to take to reduce the risk of this potentially life-threatening hazard.

Free Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Nursing Home Visit

A Public Health Nurse will offer a home visit for the family of an infant who is suspected to be a victim of SIDS. The PHN has information about available support systems, such as bereavement counselors and support groups, clergy and financial resources, and may be invaluable to offering supportive services which can assist the family in the coming days and months after the baby’s death.

PHN SERVICE FEES (Effective September 10, 2025)

The Meigs County Health Department will bill Medicaid and some Private Insurances for services rendered. If we do not accept your insurance carrier or you are uninsured, payment will be expected at time of service. If your carrier denies the charges, you will be billed for the charges, and payment will be expected within 30 days. We appreciate your cooperation.
